“Uncensored” Explanation ![]()
i have noticed that many people are dissatisfied over the uncensored sticker, as the show is still censored… but, what many people have realized is there are loads of uncensored easter eggs containing profanity and nudity. just play around with the direction button on your remote on every screen but the set up option and you will find all sorts of them. many of them are in the dethklok logo, some on the characters themselves on the menu screen, and one disc has a bunch in the episode index.
So dark it’ll smudge your hands ![]()
Great show, and pretty good authoring on the discs themselves, but the printing on the package should have been done with an aqueous coating so the ink didn’t rub off every time you looked at it funny. I’m sure the foil stamping put Adult Swim over their usual DVD budget here, but c’mon; you guys know you’re gonna sell a ton of these for years to come.
Save Your Money ![]()
I agree with other reviewers that have actually viewed the DVD set. It’s the exact same as the TV shows. I feel cheated. I still love the show and I’d rather have this DVD set than nothing at all, but it could have been done so much better. No extras, just the same shows that were broadcast on CTN including the censoring, which was really surprising to me for an unrated DVD set of an adult show.
Amazon.com Reviews… Not all good…?
So after taking a look at the Amazin.com reviews for the new Album it seems we should show you that not all reviews are good reviews…..
Here are the good reviews:

Hail the mighty Dethklok ![]()
Garnering a surprising amount of appeal upon its debut on Adult Swim, Metalocalypse tells the tales of Dethklok: the most popular metal band on the planet and then some. For fans of the show, “The Dethalbum” is everything you could ever hope for and then some. Show creator Brendon Small provides the vocals, guitars, and bass work, with legendary Death and Strapping Young Lad drummer Gene Hoglan providing the typically thrashing drum work any metal fan would come to expect. What’s most surprising about “The Dethalbum” is that it both celebrates and satires the heavy metal genre, while Small reveals himself as being quite an accomplished musician as well. “Fansong”, “Go Forth and Die”, “Briefcase Full of Guts”, and “Awaken” are funny and more than worth headbanging to, and Small’s talent (both musically and comically) is what really drives “The Dethalbum” forward. Though it does wear a little thin towards the end of the disc, “The Dethalbum” is a glorious treat that fans of Metalocalypse will no doubt eat up, and if you’re a metal fan and have never seen the show, “The Dethalbum” makes a great introduction to the animated carnage of Dethklok and Metalocalypse.
Go Forth And Buy! Â ![]()
I still can’t get over the fact I got this CD for under $10 before tax.
So I saw that Dethklok was going to release an album. I was like “Well, I like the show, but a CD, is it going to be good?” I was admittedly skeptical. When I found out extreme drumming legend Gene Hoglan was going to play on the album as Pickles the Drummer, I started to think “Hey, this should be interesting.” Once I found out Brendon Small was a graduate of Berklee, and world-renown music school, my spirits rose. FYI, Brendon plays on the album as vocalist Nathan Explosion, guitarists Swisgaar Skwigell and Toki Wartooth, and bass guitarist William Murderface; in addition to keyboard parts uncredited to the band members.
Well, then I heard the album and was a believer.
The album is too well written and well composed for music that’s supposed to be considered made by a fictitious band. The songs are epic in terms of sound and texture, but aren’t really that long. There’s plenty of double bass, the solos are better than half of the “real” metal bands in existence, and unexpectedly, this is the first time I think I’ve ever heard someone sing in a death growl where the lyrics were still intelligible! There isn’t a weak moment on the CD.
The only reason I didn’t give this album a 5 star review was due to the lack of an up-tempo song. If there would have been at least one song that would have had some blistering speed to it (double bass aside, of course), even if it was 30 seconds long, that would have made this album a perfect metal album. That however may be asking a bit much, considering that even with two dudes doing all the music, this is still one of the better metal albums of 2007.
As for tracks, I do like them all, but if I have to make a recommendation based on what songs stand out among the best, I’d choose Murmaider, Go Into The Water, Go Forth And Die, Fansong, Hatredcopter (which is the only song to feature clean vocals), Thunderhorse, Dethharmonic (featuring Emilie Autumn on violins), and of course, Deththeme (the shows theme song.)
If you’re a metal fan, I recommend you get this CD. If you’re not a metal fan but do consider yourself a music fan, I still recommend you get this CD. While I hold the musical aspect of this album true to metal’s roots, this is the most accessible metal album I’ve heard in some time and in a fashion similar to late 80’s - early 90’s Metallica, is capable of delivering songs even the most mainstream music fan can get into, regardless of genre preference.
I hope Dethklok considers touring like the Gorillaz. That would be amazing.
Then there is the Bad: But as we all know opinions are like a**holes…..
Useless Stereotypical Gimmick ![]()
Dethklok is just another novelty band that, unfortunately, metal fans will gobble up as the second coming. It’s crazy enough that Brendon Small created this lame band for his overblown and worthless show Metalocalypse, but to make a whole album of songs is just going over the line. Nice going with drawing out the songs and making them mostly filler. Yeah, you’re doing a heck of a job there Mr. Small! The humor value is at par with the torturous Carlos Mencia: relying on unfunny stereotypes and drawing them out too much. That’s nowhere close to funny.
Wait, did I just hear that Gene Holgan does the drumming? Yes, but even though this guy’s drumming really made out bands like Strapping Young Lad and Death in their works, it doesn’t save this complete trainwreck of an album.
If you want to throw your money away on a pathetic attempt at a comedy metal album, be my guest. Just expect it to collect dust over time when its minimal value wears off.
Just goes to show you that we do not just post the good….
