No worries man :)
I just thought it was likely to be an Explorer, or even a flying V like Toki's, but for some reason I keep picturing a black Les Paul with Metalocalypse vinyls on it as if I've actually seen it...wierd.

I'd love it to be an Explorer, I'd buy one hundred of them. No more, no less, one hundred exactly. But if it were something like a Les Paul or SG I'd be a bit reluctant, there too common.

The NAMM show was pretty sweet. Got to meet Brendon and Tommy, made some business deals, and had a good time overall. Unfortunately, the Gibson and Epiphone room was closed off to NAMM attendees in general except for the final hour of each day (and I think it was open all day Sunday to NAMM attendees). To get in outside that time frame required you to be on "the list," which meant you were an employee of Gibson and Epiphone that they had working in the room or you were personally invited by someone with pull, and the guitar was (1) unveiled during a time that you had to be on the list to get in the room and (2) removed from the floor of the booth when normal NAMM attendees were allowed in. The guitar is an Explorer in Gibson/Epiphone's flat "Gothic" black finish with a black pickguard and the Metalocalypse logo across the fretboard. It has a chrome tune-o-matic bridge & stopbar tailpiece and what looks to be chrome Steinberger tuning machines, and the pickups appear to be an EMG 81/85 set. Here is the only known picture I am aware of, as of now:

Hopefully that info is what a few people were looking for. It seems like it's shaping up to be a sweet axe with relatively primo equipment. When it comes out, it looks like my guitar family will be receiving its 14th member.

Wow. That's ridiculously amazing. I was saving for a real Gibson Explorer but now I don't think I'll need one...

Actually, one of the main changes I would make to a Gibson, the main thing that I believe would make it cooler, was adding those tuners. The EMGs I'm not crazy for, but I don't object too much. Not enough to not buy it.

I'm sure you all will have plenty of time to save cash. Gibson/Epiphone hasn't made any formal announcements regarding the guitar, so I wouldn't expect it to be available until sometime in '09, myself. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to coincide the release with that of the Season Two DVD or a new season of Metalocalypse or a new CD or something.

I have seen the guitar on the internet before. I saw it shortly after NAMM this year. I saw it on (not sure, as it was about 5 months ago) Exodus singer Rob Dukes personal myspace profile. I can't find any information about the guitar yet though. I would guess whoever said it would be released around the same time S2 is released, or maybe the next studio album (if they end up making one, which I'm sure they will). Epiphone may even do a package deal with the album and/or DVD will be included with the guitar. I did try to find the picture of the guitar I saw several months back, but I can't. He must have taken it off or something, or maybe it was somewhere else. It must have been given to him by the creators or something, because Brendon Small, Murderface, and the official Dethklok myspace are on his top friends and whatnot. I'll try to dig up the photo again. If I find it I'll post it :D

Yeah, but sadly, I'm quite certain these will not be mass produced. In which case, they'll probably cost a lot more because they're a "special edition" or some crap.

They're made by Epiphone so, yes, they will be mass-produced. I doubt they will be a part of Epiphone's "Elitist" series, which range from $900 upwards and feature substantially more "handcrafting" than other Epis.

If it keeps the specs I laid out, I'd say you should expect it to run about $550-$750. Personally, I'm putting my money on $599-$649. It has spec levels similar to those found on Epiphone's relatively new Prophecy line, and those of that line most similar to the Dethklok axe in specs run $550-$700. Even if the specs change, I'd say you shouldn't waste time hoping it'll cost less than $400 because I'm sure it will exceed that, but I'm equally sure it won't exceed $800 (that price wouldn't make sense, business-wise).

Ooh, ok. Don't know much about guitar lines and how they run things, but I kind of figured it'd a kind of limited edition thing.
Still is quite a nice chunk of change, though. lol

THe guitar looks badass but let me tell you now: those steinberger gearless tuners are pieces of junk. I have an epiphone Firebird Studio with the exact same tuners. They're terrible. They have little bolts in them that come loose no matter how much you tighten them. Other than that the guitar looks insane. And all of the specs except the tuners and the "Metalocalypse" name and inlay are the exact same as the Epiphone Futura (new name for explorer; I know it's stupid) prophecy with stopbar tailpiece. That costs $549.00. So after adding on the name "Metalocalypse" to the guitar, it should cost about $650-$700. No more than $750 I don't think. So for those of you thinking it'll be a ridiculous price; it is a bit more than epiphone's regular stuff but it's got better pickups than most epi's and it's an awesome model. Explorers own.

Unless you installed them aftermarket, you don't. You have the standard epiphone banjo tuners that are traditionally used on firebirds. Those are pieces of junk. Steinberger tuners are very solid.

Edit: sorry, I just noticed they updated it with Steinbergers; it used to come with banjo tuners. Personally, I like the steinberger tuning machines, for me they are pretty solid and offer great stability and precision. They are a very different kind of tuning machine though, and aren't for everyone. With Steinberger tuning machines, you also have to kind of know what you're doing when you're installing the strings, or else you will have tuning stability problems; they don't function like other tuning machines.

Told you it'd be an Explorer! That seriously is awesome, the 81/85 set would sound great, I recently got a newJackson RR24 with an 81.
