Default Murderface's Bass - Gibson Thunderbird

William Murderface plays a black five-string Gibson Thunderbird Studio with a white pick-guard. These are truly awesome basses, any bass players out there I urge you to go forth and buy one. Then freeball.

I have a black, er, bass. I'm still transitioning from Guitar to Bass (which is the easiest transition between 2 instruments known to man) but I do plan to upgrade. Problem is, I'm not a bassist, so I don't know what's a good bass to buy and what's crap. Any suggestions?

The transition is not as easy as some would lead you to think, depending on your feel for the groove.

What kind of music you play has a small bearing on which bass you select (the strings make a bigger difference), but the biggest factor is comfort. Your hand has to be comfortable across all the strings, and the length of the neck. The style of play can be adversly affected by the location of the pickups. Those factors you just have walk into every music store you can find, and try basses out.

Fender is solid (Squire less so), Ibinez are good, or if you have loose cash Schlector or Music Man.
